All-Time Favorite Line from Rudolph

"Well, actually, I am a dentist."

Chad and I started totally howling when Hermie popped out of the snow bank and introduced himself to Rudolph.  Chad claims not to have seen Rudolph before–he was surprised that it was a musical, and he laughed at all the funny woodland creatures flittering around and called them "lame."  I tried not to be offended by this.

Have a holly, jolly Christmas. . .

What in the World Have I Been Doing?

I know, I know.  It’s been a while since my last post!  I have been doing things, though, and they’ve filled up all my time.

1.  Painting:  Why, doesn’t everyone begin repainting their living room four weeks before Christmas?  I repainted two walls in the living room, finally painted the window trim bright white, and put a gleaming new snowy coat on my fireplace mantel. It was looking pretty dim and shabby before.  I will try to find before and after shots to post.

2.  Rearranging Furniture:  One of my favorite things!  I am always trying to find the next great arrangement, trying to squeeze every last square inch out of my limited space.  I really like what I’ve done, and I’ll try to post photos of that, too.

3.  Christmas Decorating.  Do I really need to explain this one?

4.  Scrapbooking:  I haven’t made a page since October!  So I parked myself in my way-fun craft room last night and completed four layouts.  Yay for me!

5.  Craft bazaar:  in the Bizarre little Town of Penninsula.  Really a weird experience.  Heidi made bazillions of gourmet cookies. I had Christmas cards and felted wool bags.  The show, however, was mostly billed as an Antique event, so the majority of shoppers weren’t interested in our stuff.  The bright side is, I don’t have to make my Christmas cards now, because I already have them!

6.  Thanksgiving:  Was this only last week?  We had the fam over for dinner and the food was absolutely out of this world!

Big Weekend

My grandpa passed away while I was in Hawaii.  Thankfully, I made it home in time for the funeral.  He had lived to the age of 91, and he was a believer. While we were sad to see him go, we were happy about his release from his tired, worn out body.  We know we’ll see him again someday soon. It was really great to see all of my family, especially my cousins.  On Saturday night, Chad and I had about 18 people over for games and snacks!

My cousins Rebekah and Melanie have always been my particular friends.  Rebekah is a year older than I, and Melanie is six months younger, so we’ve always had a lot in common.  It helps that they’re as crazy and weird as I am!

Home at Last

I got home on Friday, only seven hours later than I was supposed to.  Let me tell you, listening to Hawaiian music for seven straight hours is really painful, especially at three o’clock in the morning!  Here are some more photos from my trip:

Aiea_loop_14 This is from the Aiea loop trail.  Gotta love a place that has no consonants in its name.

I have a bazillion other photos, but I don’t want to clog up the works with all of them.  If anyone wants to see them all, email me for the link to snapfish, and I’ll send it to you as soon as I get them all uploaded.

Aloha!

Sorry it’s been so long since my last post.  Finding an internet connection has been tricky!  But we’re in Hawaii now, finally, after a little trip across the Pacific, a two-day sojourn in San Diego with my Dad and Debbie, and another loooong flight across the Pacific.  We’re staying at the lodge on the Marine Corps Base, and it’s really nice.  It’s on the windward side of the island, and the weather and views have been absolutely fantastic!  We spent the day down in Waikiki, mostly eating, but also people-watching and trying not to get sun-sick, as is my wont.  Here are some more photos:

And here is my silly dad, trying on hats in the stores in Old Town San Diego:

Meredith MADE me drink this enormous Mai Tai:

And a lovely, typical Hawaiian sunset!  Miss all of you very much!  Thanks for your comments!

YAY FOR THE SAILOR-GIRL!

Hello everyone!!!

I made it across the bluer than blue ocean, and I only got sea-sick once! We got in this morning–it was really a sight to see all the people on shore waving their signs and jumping up and down to see the people they love and haven’t seen for six months!  It was very moving, but I managed to not openly cry about it.  🙂  I have a new respect for the Navy and for my cousin, Meredith, who really is a heroine in my eyes.  I know I couldn’t do it for half a year!

We are in San Diego today, chilling at my Uncle Tom’s awesome-huge house by the pool.  It’s been great to see my dad and Debbie again, and almost as great to walk on dry land (which has only seemed to lurch once or twice since getting off the ship!)

Here are some photos:

See you in two weeks!

I’m leaving this morning for Hawaii, and I thought I’d post again before I leave.  I am going to try to post from vacation, but I’m not sure what my internet capabilities will be.  Hopefully, I will be able to post photos and everything, but I can’t promise.  I will miss you all very much, so send me comments!  I love comments!  And if you should happen to think of Chad, who will be very lonely without me, please invite him over and feed him!

Love you guys!

Ally

Good friends, good food!

Faith, Luke & Hannah came over last night for a potluck.  We had Vollers’ famous bbq ribs, baked beans, cheesy fries, and strawberry shortcake!  It was sooooo goooood.  This is how Hannah felt:

And here we are looking pretty cute:

And looking pretty silly:

And I just have to say,  I never thought to have so much fun with a wind-up jelly bean-laying chicken!  Of course, we stuffed it with candy corn and almost asphyxiated laughing at it.  (Hannah had to sit down on the floor to stop herself from losing all control of her bladder.)  If Bloody Sam can figure it out, I’ll post the video of my super-cool chicken.  I know you’re all dying to see it now.

Shopping Spree

Ok, so I went to the store to find clothes to wear on my Hawaii trip next week.  The problem is that in Ohio, usually the shorts and t-shirts are gone by the end of October.  So, I found one t-shirt, and spent the rest of my money on socks, long-sleeve ts, jammie tops and bottoms, and more socks!

I love socks:

And stripes:

And maybe some of you can help me out here.  I keep asking Meredith if an aircraft carrier has ever just sunk.  And she doesn’t answer me!  Very ominous.  And all I can think about is that deep, cold, cold water, thousands of miles from land. . . .(insert Jaws theme music here)  So if any of you know, let me know.  Better yet, lie to me, and tell me that it has never happened.

Domesticity

Aren’t they just so cute when they’re being all domestic?

Domestics

We were at Luke & Hannah’s last night to hang out with everyone.  Chad made brownies, which were really good after he realized that he needed to put water in the batter.  They had only been in the oven for a few minutes though, so it didn’t hurt anything.

I don’t think Luke is ever going to let me come over again, though.  He seems to think that I "make" us all watch Seven Brides for Seven Brothers every time I’m over.  But this isn’t true.  We’ve only watched it twice.  And ok, one of those times was on his birthday, but still, it isn’t every time.  And Hannah always wants to watch it too!  And Julie had never even seen it, and she wanted to know what all the shrieking and laughing was for when I mentioned watching it.  Sooooo, it was completely reasonable to watch it again!

Seven_brides_1 Them women was sobbin’, sobbin’, sobbin’ fit to be tied. . .
