Good Sport

Jordan is probably my favorite photo shoot model.  He lets me drag him all over the world, stands on railroad tracks, on top of big rocks, lays down in big piles of leaves. . .he’s the best.  And he’s so cute, too!  These are the latest:

Right place, Right time

Ever since the beginning of spring, I have looked for three things on my walks at my favorite trail:  ducklings, goslings, and herons.  Until today, I had seen exactly zero duckies and goosies, and I only caught the heron as it was trying to fly away from me.  🙁  Today, however, everything just worked out as beautifully as it could and I saw ALL THREE.  And I had my camera!!  It really doesn’t take much to completely thrill me:

A Wedding

Many of you read Kim of Hiraeth’s blog, so you know that her eldest son John was getting married.  Yesterday, Chad and I had the privilege to be there when he and Beth said their vows.

Shenberger_john_jake_bw John is on the right.  His brother Jake is the Beatle-esque one.  🙂

Sunny interlude

When the sun came out this morning, I got a little giddy.  After all, I haven’t seen it in a week! So I decided to go exploring, and where I ended up was Brandywine Falls in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  So beautiful, but alas, I couldn’t finish the trail because the stepping stones were under torrential waters.  Fun!

Heidi and I took Granny Annie to Smithville today to shop at the Oak Cupboard.  On the way back, Heidi started making interested noises at the temporary greenhouse downtown on 585.  So we stopped, Of Course.

How the Other Half Lives

This week, Chad earned a really cool incentive at work:  dinner at the Terrace Club before the Indians baseball game last night.  We sat with two of this co-workers, had the buffet and dessert, and the bill for our table was $425!!  Crazy!  The dessert was really good–Chad got tiramisu and I got this chocolate ganache torte that I’m still excited about.  Too bad the Indians lost, but it was still a great experience.

Jordan’s birthday

Yesterday was Jordan’s twentieth birthday!  I remember being "too sick" to go to school the day he was born.  My mom and grandma and I sat in the Freeze, an old diner type place, and talked about how much fun it was going to be to have a baby around.  When we got the call that Jordan had arrived and that Heidi was ok, my grandma cried.  It was the first time I’d ever seen that, and it really made a big impact.  I love Jordan–he is more my little brother than my cousin, and he’s one of my all-time favorite people.  So we spent the day crawling on rocks out at Virginia Kendall.  Well, Chad and Jordan, mostly.  I stood there and said things like, "I really think that it’s too dangerous.  That looks slippery, are you sure that’s a good idea. You are not jumping that, Chad! Oh, wait, don’t I get double the insurance if you die in an accident?"

Maximus

Img_4512_log

This big guy here is Maximus, my friend Linda’s cat.  He’s a big dude, a tough dude, but lately he’s been having a rough time.  A few weeks ago, he had a reaction to an antibiotic and stopped eating.  Yesterday, Linda took him in to have a feeding tube inserted into his neck.  As soon as she got him home, it popped out, and she called me to drive them to the animal emergency room so she could hold him.  We waited a loooonggg time, but he did really well.  He only growled at the dogs a few times.  It was hard on Linda though, especially holding him in her lap:  he weighs nearly 20 pounds!

The vet sent him home bandaged, and I’m not sure how he’s doing today.  But I thought I’d tell this story, because I know you cat-lovers out there will pray for him.  He is a total sweetheart of a cat, and looking at his gigantic furry paws is enough to melt my heart. And it’s always hard for the owner to watch her companion suffer and not know how to help him.

Jackpot!

I love the AAUW book sale!  You should have seen me, books in my arms up to my chin, walking carefully to the checkout.  I had to leave four of them there because I ran out of cash, and SOMEBODY used the last check in the checkbook and didn’t replace them.  Hmmm, now who could that have been?  But they put my name on them and I’m going back to get them later.  Now I know some of you are looking at these books thinking, "why is she going to read that?"  Because it’s summer.  That’s why.

Ready to go for it

I’ve only been thinking about it for the past three years or so, but now I’m ready to try it.  I want to start a photography business, doing shoots for people in their homes or other locations that mean something to them.  I gave some photos to the father of the children I nanny yesterday, and he was just blown away.  The beauty of his children took his breath away:  I want to do that all the time.

I had my first real shoot on Wednesday, and it was so fun and they turned out so well.  I don’t want to post photos of other people’s children on the internet, but just believe me when I say that Karen’s granddaughter is a cutie-patootie.

I so want to do this!

Photo-Marathon

Since I only have the camera until Wednesday, I’ve been taking advantage of every opportunity to use it.  I have stalked my cats, chased after Chad, crawled under bushes, and twisted the Aunties’ arms to get the shot, any shot.  And it’s been so much fun, I can hardly stand it!  I have to figure out a way to get this camera!

Why I love Luke and Hannah SO MUCH!

They let me borrow their Nikon D70. I haven’t been so in love with a piece of photographic equipment since I got my 50mm 1.8 lens a few years ago.
