Those of you who appreciate fine dining must check out the Post House, a truck stop at the intersection of 57 and 585. The Aunties and I look forward to their crinkle fries and blackberry pie with exuberant enthusiasm. We have even been known to lick the pie plates. In public. With other people around. It’s just that good. The ambience leaves much to desire, but sometimes, vinyl seats, wood-panelling, and a key to use in the rest-room door make a nice change from, well, taste.
My Dad and step-mom, Debbie were in town Monday night from California. I haven’t seen them since November, so I was very glad we had the chance to have dinner with them at Granny’s. Now, those of you who know me well may be surprised to discover that my dad is a total goof. Because, as you all know, I behave with the utmost decorum at all times. But he is. He’s a crazy man.

Today is my father-in-law’s birthday! Happy Birthday, Doug!
Jill and I had a lovely tea party on the front porch yesterday.
Ahhh, it’s 70 degrees out there right now. And that is the best news I’ve had all day.
Yikes. It’s hot today! Not that it wasn’t hot yesterday. . .and Monday. . . but I wasn’t at the fair yesterday and Monday. Meredith came over today, and I took her to the fair for lunch. We parked at the wonderful and swell LukeandHannah’s house and sweltered away the afternoon. We shared the twirly potatoes, chocolate-covered frozen cheesecake on a stick, battered veggies, and a funnel cake. And now we both feel kind of sick and greasy, but boy, was it fun while it lasted!
Chad came home from a meeting yesterday, pleased as punch. "I gave blood today!" he exclaimed, whipping out a t-shirt. "And I only got light-headed at the very end. But they gave me cookies, so it was ok." They also gave him a coupon for a free Chipotle burrito, so he was pretty proud of himself. I supposedly can’t give blood for a few more years, since I was in Asia in 2003. But I think it’s a wonderful thing to do, and I’m glad Chad donated. He’s my hero!
Totally thrilled to see this beauty on the side of the porch today. I took photos and sent him to my dad for identification. But then, being impatient and rather nerdy, I looked it up myself on the internet. This is a Pandorus Sphinx Moth, which likes grapes and virginia creeper (neither of which grow in my garden). It’s fairly large, and I’m trying to restrain myself from poking it to make it fly. I want to see that wingspan!
I haven’t been very good at keeping my blog up-to-date lately, but I’ll try to fill in some gaps today. Last week we celebrated Heidi’s birthday with a luau-themed party. It was fun–the food was great, it rained like crazy, and Luke was in town for it:
On the Fourth of July, Chad and I got up early and went to Battery Park to catch the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It was strangely moving, especially Ellis Island, through which at least two branches of my family passed. I haven’t edited the photos from that portion of the trip yet, so I’ll post those later. That evening, we went to Tavern on the Green with the rest of his company. It was such a beautiful setting, and the food was way-yum! But here are some pics of the other things we did in NYC:

It’s hot in NYC! We’re here for the National Sales Meeting of Chad’s company, and we’re having a great time! I’ve been walking, eating a LOT, sweating (it is hot!), and spending the late afternoon cooling off in our room, reading.
