Pick a Petal Projects

I had the first of two Pick a Petal stamp classes last night. Five people came, and everyone seemed to really enjoy the projects, but I think they were a bit too complicated for an evening class! Nonetheless, the cards are all super cute, and everybody got to take the stamp set home with her afterwards. The second class is tonight, and I think I will do some stamping and/or cutting to help expedite matters!

What we made:

A Well-Watered Garden

Last night, I sat out on the porch and watched the storm roll in, the lightning flashing almost continuously. When it started to rain, I stayed right where I was on the lowest step and let the rain soak me through. It got a bit cold, so I ran down the yard, laughing and dancing, much to Chad’s bemusement. When I was watered enough, I came shivering inside, and had that distinct, remembered-from-childhood pleasure of changing out of cold, wet clothes into dry ones, with the glow of rain on my skin.

Photos by Becky

Becky is going to be my assistant/second shooter for the wedding on Saturday. She came over today to play with the camera a bit and to talk through some of the details. She is in no way responsible for the content of these photos. It was all the big, dorky subject’s fault.

Something Really Good

Ok, so I go to a little store called The Oak Cupboard, out in Smithville, a lot. I buy all my flour, dried fruit, nuts, yeast, spices, and other miscellaneous baking goods there. Sometimes, they have really fun, random things, like gummy candy corn and raspberry chocolate chips. On my last trip, they had the round chocolate cookies for ice cream sandwiches, so I bought a bag. Yesterday, Chad and I decided that ice cream sandwiches would be pretty good after our dinner of burgers, corn and fresh beans from the Goods Farm stand on 18. So we stopped at Buehlers to see if they had any deals on ice cream. AND THEY DID! Pierre’s pints, 5 for $5! We bought five different kinds: vanilla, chocolate, mint chip, cherry vanilla, and orange swirl sherbet. These ice cream sandwiches are the most yum-o things ever, and the only decision we have to make is, "Which flavor should I have this time?"

Memorial Day Parade layout

I scraplifted this layout idea from a magazine. . .but I can’t remember which one now. I think it was Scrapbooks ETC, the Aug/Sept 2007 issue. When I am just starting to scrap, sometimes I look through my idea books and mags for inspiration. I love finding a layout that speaks to me and adapting it for my own use. These parade pictures are so fun–I really wanted a layout that would let me fit all of them on a 2-page spread without sacrificing space for a title and journalling.

Thanks for the feedback!

I love getting comments on this blog! It’s like when I first started blogging with Any Similar Revival–every new comment was a moment for giggling and squeeing. I intend to make a way-cool banner for this blog too–I’m just trying to think of a cool photo. I made the font size bigger on the sidebars, Kim, and I HOPE you start scrapbooking Jenn, because it is the most fun use of cutting and pasting that I have ever found. And the name, well, that started years ago when Chad and Heidi started saying I was "scrapping in my pants" whenever I was scrapbooking. The name stuck, and if I ever open a store, and I never will, but if I do, the name will be Scrap in Your Pants.  Cheeky, yes, but that’s the way it is. If anyone is easily offended, I apologize. But the name stays.  🙂

I also wanted to start this blog for all of my Stampin Up customers who like regular inspiration and ideas. It will also be an easier way to promote upcoming classes and events–I can actually post photos of projects before the class. My official SU website is supposedly undergoing some major change in the next few weeks. We’ll see which site works better for me, this one or that one. Right now, this one is WAY better.

Two Recent layouts

I haven’t been doing a lot of scrapbooking lately–just cards and 3-D projects for Stampin’ Up! events. But I’ve missed it, so I made these two layouts Wednesday. The first is from our trip to the Hocking Hills region in June. The second is just an everyday thing I want to remember.

Girlsdayout_01

Myview_01 I used Stampin’ Up!’s set, "Doodle This" for the line drawing doodles. I LOVE that set!

Just added a new blog

I have just created another blog, called "Scrap in Your Pants," dedicated to my paper arts & crafts. You can find it here : www.allyanne.typepad.com/scrap_in_your_pants/

It is still very much a teeny tiny baby thing, a work in progress, so pop over and tell me what you think!

Whee! A new blog!

I have decided to create a new blog just for my stamping and scrapping activities. I’ve wanted a place to upload photos of recent creations, but haven’t felt that "Any Similar Revival," my regular blog, is the place to do that. Hence "Scrap in Your Pants," my family’s term for all my paper-crafting hobbies.

Here are some recent creations:

I hope to update this site several times a week, sharing new scrapbook page layouts and stamped creations. What do you think of the design of this site? Anything I need to improve or change or add?

Tummy Aches

It’s Medina County Fair week. I’ve been looking forward to it all year, and tonight, finally, we went. Usually we go for the whole shebang–the animals, food, 4-H stuff, the crafts, etc., but this year, we decided to just go in on a "food pass." This allows you THIRTY minutes to race around the fair, fill your arms with as much food as you can carry, and make it back to the gate to get your $5 back. I had a game plan ready before we went in:  twirly fries and cheesesteak, twirly fries and cheesesteak.

Chad had no game plan. He just went wherever his little heart led him. The first thing he got was a pound of bulk candy.

Fair_05

And then he bought a sausage sandwich AND a steak sandwich.;

And just to be fair, I must admit to grabbing a frozen cheesecake on a stick (dipped in chocolate. . .) on the way out.

Did it with FOUR minutes to spare!

Love lit up rides at night:

Because then I could get in there and splash with them instead of having to be the responsible adult.

Here is a great shot of Kristen, the lovely mother of my children:  (hee hee!)

And I know she is making a goofy face here, but can you believe how grown up she looks?

Ah. . .summer fun. . .

Jill M. was over today for a stamping event, and she told me about this zydeco concert at Buckeye Woods.

?, I thought.

So Chad and I went, and not only was there a zydeco band, Mo Mojo Mama, but there were bubble makers, hot air balloon rides, rehabilitated wild animals on display, popsicles, kites, jumping things for kids, and lots of lots of cuties of the four-legged and under-10 two-legged variety. We met up with Jill, Rob, Ally, and Danny, and I was SO HAPPY to have kids there to photograph! bubbles bubbles bubbles. . .

I have no idea who this little girl is, but she was so cute and spunky, I had to take her picture:

Chad and I liked the breastplate washboard. ("That could be a prop in a bad sci-fi movie." Chad Voller)

Dsc_0097

The bass player was just cool. Jill said, "What is it with bass players always being four inches taller than the rest of the band and always just so cool?"

This little owl is named "Cricket."  hee hee!

blog slacking and general angst

Hi.

Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with this thing. I’ve been out of sorts and funky since returning from Portland. I think it’s the let-down after the event. I worked so hard for so long, and now it’s over, and I’m not quite sure what to do with myself. I do a bit better with each passing day, and I think that much of this is a direct result of the intense physical effort of the two day ride. It just plain wore me out! I have finally edited my photos from the event itself. They’re not that interesting, because I didn’t take any while I was actually riding, nor did I stop at any scenic spots. With 9000 other cyclists on the route, not to mention cars and other distractions, I didn’t really have the nerve to pull over and stop. It was a bit crowded! But here are a few.

From Friday’s "shakedown" ride, around Seattle with the team:

Shakedown_04

Shakedown_07_6x9

From the first day:

Day_one_05 This was the first free food stop, sponsored by REI. They had free Odwalla yogurt smoothies and Clif bars! And about a bazillion cyclists trying to enter and exit at the same time. Can you say mass chaos? It was quite entertaining to watch the carnage, the slow collisions, the poor, clipped-in riders falling over in slow-motion. . .And they had the LONGEST line of port-a-pots I have ever seen. This is the most horrible thing, but in the Northwest, the company that provides these facilities is called "Honey-Buckets." Isn’t that awful?

Day_one_07_crop Darryl, Coach Rick, and Jillian, at the REI stop.

Day_one_09 The line for water refills at the second main stop, sponsored by Whole Foods. We had lunch here, lined up at the Honey Buckets, and stayed way too long, almost an hour. It was nearly impossible to leave any earlier though, because we had to wait in line for everything. Unfortunately, we had cooled down too much, so starting back up was difficult, and I just wanted to lay down and read instead!

Day_one_12 The 100 mile mark on the first day was in Centralia, where most cyclists were staying for the night. They gave us free Creamsicles! It was the best popsicle I’ve ever had, or am likely to ever have. We still had 13 more miles to go at this point, because the church we were staying at was further down the route. Those last 13 miles were absolute misery, and the longest ride I’ve ever had. It put us ahead for Sunday’s ride, but while I was pedalling away, I really, really wished we had stayed in Centralia! The church was awesome though! They had showers, the BEST FOOD EVER, and really nice people. Our team all crashed on the floor of a Sunday school room with a ginormous mural of Jesus on the wall. It was most comforting, even if he was a rather ugly Jesus. I slept surprisingly well, considering I was sleeping on the floor, but I guess riding 113 miles will make you tired.

Day two:

Day_two_02 This is the REAL reason I rode the STP Classic: the world’s largest wooden egg. No kidding! There it is, in all its splendor! I had to pose with it:

Day_two_04

I started to really hurt after this point. My right knee was in agony. If I coasted and then started pedalling again, it hurt. If I was riding in a too-easy gear and bouncing a bit, it hurt. If I had to start out in a hard gear, it hurt. In short, it hurt. I called Heidi and whined, and she told me to buck up. I called Chad and whined and he told me to buck up. Meanies! But I listened to them, popped four aspirin, and bucked up. FORTY MILES LATER, it stopped hurting. But those were some long, painful miles! It helped to think of the dead when I was in pain, of my Mum when she was in the worst part of her chemo, of my Grandma, when the drugs addled her mind and made her hallucinate. This gave me the strength to just push past all the pain and keep going.  When I was merely tired and worn out, it helped most to think of the living, all of you who were praying for me. I could feel it!

Day_two_09 Here I am at the last stop before the end, at St. Helen’s. My knee miraculously stopped hurting altogether at this point, and we only had 30 miles left! Before we started riding, I was worried that it would be the worst part of the ride, but strangely enough, when we got back on the bikes, I felt stronger than I had the entire ride! Those last 30 miles were the best! And I can’t even tell you how emotional and happy and teary I got as we neared the finish. When I rode down the shoot, between rows of cheering people, that was really something.

After the end:
