A Successful Experiment, September, and Clafouti

Ok, first of all, check this out! Something else I'm good at growing!

Growing carrots is so exciting! You don't know what you've got until you start pulling them up, and then it is great cheering and rejoicing!

Here they are all cleaned up:

Aren't they pretty? They're tasty too–sweet, flavorful, fresh. I'm so happy about the carrots. I made a yummy feta-walnut dip for them last night, and we were both very pleased.

And I just need to say, I'm so glad it's September! August always drags on and on every year, boring and endless and in the way of my favorite season. So now that it is finally September, I'm feeling more cheerful and energetic. And you know what comes after Septmeber. . .the best month of the year!

I made a clafouti on Monday to take to Heidi's for labor day. I've never made a clafouti before, so I was a little apprehensive, but it turned out all right. Maybe more salt next time, bake it longer, add more nutmeg. Chad thought it was perfect–he loves those custardy, puddingy desserts.

  1. Your carrots are lovely. I didn’t grow any this year, but got some from a local organic farmer and was blown away by the pure carroty flavor! Maybe I’ll try these next year. I like a vegetable with a bit of mystery about it.

Carrots and clafouti- it sounds like an underground vegetable support/terrorist group!
Except that I love them both and want them to be sweet and delicious and non threatening. And — oh yeah- I want to eat them.

We have so many weird carrot stories. One year I accidentally dumped an entire packet of carrot seeds into a small container. We ate baby carrots, then teenaged carrots, then mature adult carrots.
One year we dug up carrots for a snowman’s nose.
Joe grew carrots once, unknowingly, on top of a cement slab. So he had carrots that were three inches long and two inches in diameter.
The other years we ate normal yummy carrots.

Sorry Hannah, you should be back up now. It was configured to only show 10 links, and you were #12 (which means I added you first, way back when!)
