I did a 30-mile recovery ride on the Towpath yesterday. It was great–I had to keep telling myself to slow down! I had some wildlife experiences, mostly with bossy Canadian geese, which if truth be told, scare me to death. I had to ride through several pairs, and they all hissed at me, and I had to just screw up my courage and go fast. I did see some of their fluffy babies, though, and they were squee-worthy. My dad would be so proud–I saw and identified a Balitmore oriole, red-wing blackbirds, goldfinches, blue herons, and a couple of indigo buntings! They were all flitting and flying about, mostly chasing each other out of their territories. It was not a Disney, sweet-little bird moment, where they are all la-la-laing around, but they were so beautiful! And then I saw these guys, bold as brass, just gazing at me balefully for a while:
And, I had a moment of true "I love Cleveland!" Which doesn’t happen all that often. But look at this nifty bridge they built for the path to cross a busy street!
It was so refreshing to ride and only deal with traffic of the furry-and-feathered variety. I think I’d take Canadian geese over mean semi-truck drivers ANY DAY!
